Andrew is a fifth-generation Pākehā (Kōtirani, Ingarihi) and third-generation, storyteller.
Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Andrew’s first career was in journalism, reporting news, and producing documentaries for radio broadcasters globally. Andrew returned to Aotearoa New Zealand to live and work in a community established to support people with intellectual disability.
Becoming a father of three, Andrew took on roles in public relations, academia, and communications—with the art of storytelling, community engagement, and dedication to equity always at the heart of his work.
In 2004, Andrew founded his business Spoke, which focused on developing story strategies, content advice, and leadership development for individuals, organisations, and communities.
Andrew facilitates workshops and mentors leaders across the corporate, government, not-for-profit, Māori, and Pasifika sectors. His focus is on the gathering and honing of stories that build on cultural values and perspectives, and helping organisations and individuals to build their vision, purpose, and values through narrative. Andrew is also a breath and meditation teacher, weaving well-being practices throughout his work.
In 2016, Andrew wrote The Weave, The Surprising Unity in Difference, focusing on how metaphor connects people, teams, and audiences. He has co-authored three other books, including editing TetraMap: Develop People and Business the Way Nature Intended for Yoshimi and Jon Brett.

“I really enjoyed the day and more importantly the framework you have established for the weave. To be honest it is probably one of the most useful tools and workshops I have attended to date. I can really see it being of use in a number of projects both in my role now and beyond. It’s even useful as a framework for understanding what makes up a brand!”
