In Your Element – Catalysing
Action on Inclusive Leadership at
O2, with Allyson Fay

By Louise

Ally shares some interesting insights into her research with the Elements at O2 and the differing perceptions of their ability to reach a senior leadership position within the business.

She followed through on a hunch she observed during many leadership workshops, that if you have a high preference for Water (calm and relationship-oriented) AND are female, the opportunities of obtaining or seeking a senior leadership role in the organisation were low. The impact of this very likely meant a significant proportion of the whole employee population was potentially being overlooked for development opportunities. Ally set out to prove her theory, and with her findings was able to raise the broader issue of inclusion and what it means at O2.

In this 30 minute episode, she shares more about the nature of inclusion, leadership and strategies organisations can use in promoting greater respect for diversity in senior roles, and shares some of the initiatives O2 have implemented in recent years to help push their inclusion agenda forward.

The results should serve as a role model for catalysing action for many large and small organisations across the globe.

Bio: Allyson Fay

Ally is currently Employee Engagement and Experience Manager at O2/ Telefonica. She is a Senior Leadership Development Consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the telecommunications industry. Ally is a Master TetraMap Facilitator and member of TetraMap’s Global Leadership Group.

Ally has recently discovered a love of gardening and says it perfectly reflects her when she is In Her Element, learning something new, watching something grow, and building strong relationships – in this case with her Dad.

Ally’s quote came from the wonderful book by Paulo Coelho – ‘The Alchemist’

“We are travellers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”
